Thomas Evan Scott, Sr., 79, of Bedford, died Friday, July 12, 2013. He was born in Roanoke on Sept. 2, 1933 a son of the late John Simeon Scott, Sr. and Kyle Thomas Scott. Tom was a member of Bedford Presbyterian Church, Bedford Elks Lodge #2844, Liberty Masonic Lodge AF and AM #95, Lynchburg Scottish Rite and was Potentate of the Kazim Temple in 1993 and also a member of the Royal Order of Jesters. Tom served his country in the U.S. Army and was retired from the Virginia State Police. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Lugar Scott, three children, Sharon S. Aker and husband, Neal; Thomas Evan Scott, Jr. and Gregory L. Scott; four grandchildren, Britney Childress and husband, Kevin; Caroline A. Newman; Paige Scott and Anna Scott; six great-grandchildren, Sansa, Cole, Olivia, Aniyah, Makynna, Mason; a sister, Virginia Hayter; a brother, John Simeon Scott, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kazim Temple Transportation Fund. A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013 at Bedford Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Salley officiating. Arrangements by Burch-Messier, Bedford, 540-586-7360.
