BEAVERCREEK — George Wilson Watts, March 19,1925-March 11, 2015. On March 11, 2015, George Wilson Watts, of Beavercreek, OH, passed away of natural causes in Maricopa, AZ. He was living with his son Edward. George was 89 years of age. He was born March 19, 1925 in Portsmouth, Virginia to Edward Powell, Sr. and Sarah Louise (Wilson) Watts. He was a graduate of The Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) and Princeton. He served in the Air Force from 1951 to 1972 as an aeronautical engineer, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. While in the Air Force he worked on various projects, including the Ramjet, the X-15, fixed wing aircraft and the Agena (second stage of the Gemini rockets). On May 9, 1953 he was joined in marriage to Jean Louise McCartney, who preceded him in death in 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother, E.P. Watts, Jr. and his daughter, Nancy Lee. George moved to Arizona in 2013 with his wife Jean. They enjoyed traveling and George was fond of exploring museums throughout Arizona with his son. He is survived by a sister, Betty Watts; daughter, Peggy (Bruce) Jeffries; son, Edward Watts; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Beavercreek. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, from the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road with his daughter, Reverend Peggy Watts Jeffries officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Shoup Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015.
