David Moore Obituary
David H. Moore, 91, of Granite City, Ill., born June 21, 1925, in Fredericktown, Mo., passed away at 10:04 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.
He retired from Sherwood Medical in St. Louis, Mo., after many years of dedicated service as a tool and die maker. The United States Navy veteran proudly served his country during World War II, in the Pacific Theatre as a top turret gunner on a rescue patrol sea plane. David always enjoyed working on and around his home and enjoyed his days of traveling. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Essie Lee Anna, nee Cox, Moore, whom he married on April 9, 1944 in Oklahoma City, Okla., and she passed away on Dec. 20, 2011; parents, Ernest L. and Nancy "June" (Meridith) Moore; a sister, Genevieve "Bernice" Shrewsbury; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Arthur R. "Art" and Nadine Moore, and Elmer Moore.
Surviving are three sons, James (Sharon "Shari") Moore of Glen Carbon, Ill., Larry (Myra) Moore of Florissant, Mo., and Donald (Phyllis) Moore of Eldora, Iowa; step-grandchildren, Timothy (Kattie) Schumer and Dan (Kathy) Schumber; step great-grandchildren, Michael Schumer and Sophia Schumer; sister, Annetta (George) Pierson of Meford, Ore.; sister-in-law, Marie Moore of St. Peters, Mo.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elizabeth "Liz" (Norman) Slaten of O'Fallon, Mo.; other extended family and friends.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, American Heart Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to a charity of one's choice and may be accepted at the funeral home. www.irwinchapel.com.
Visitation: In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road, Glen Carbon, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Irwin Chapel with Reverend Mark Powell officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Ill.
