Raymond Abernathy
Raymond C. Abernathy, 72, of Freeburg, Ill., born August 5, 1940, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012 at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Raymond worked as a meter reader with Illinois American Water Company for over 30 years and was a member of the Laborers Local 100. He was a member of the VFW Post 5694 in Highland. Raymond served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Occupation after the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. and Frances, nee Auvenshine, Abernathy, Sr.; two brothers, Sonny Roustio and Edward P. Abernathy; and a sister, Kathy Jo Abernathy.
He is survived by his three daughters, Christine (Joseph) Begue of Springfield, Ill., Vicki (Michael) Gothard of Belleville, Ill., and Emily Stines of Freeburg, Ill.; five grandchildren, Kyle (Kayla) Bodine, Dylan Bodine, Samantha Santistevan, A.C. Santistevan and Jacob Gothard; a great-granddaughter, Zoey Bodine; five sisters and five brothers, Betty Pyles of Belleville, Ill., Bobbe Bugger of Collinsville, Ill., Elaine Adams of Collinsville, Ill., Edna (Keith) Hurner of VanBuren, Mo., Liz (Greg) Johnson of Safety Harbor, Fla., Dennis Roustio of Caseyville, Ill., Randy (Elaine) Roustio of Granite City, Ill., Edward Roustio of New Orleans, La., Joseph (Amy) Abernathy, Jr., of Centreville, Ill., and Michael Abernathy of Centreville, Ill.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.kasslyfuneral.com.
Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Pastor Tim Rankins officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Fairview Heights, Ill.

I hadn't seen Ray in over 20 years, but he was a good guy. Always had a smile on his face. I am so sorry for your loss. RIP Ray. You will be missed.
