Christopher Vinson-Nieves

Christopher M. Vinson-Nieves, 31, of La Crosse, Wis., died Monday, March 25, 2013, at his home.

He was born Sept. 2, 1981, in Fort Bragg, N.C., to Gregory E. and Eugenia T., nee Nieves, Vinson.

Christopher grew up in the Collinsville, Ill., area and graduated from Collinsville High School in 2000. He later entered the United States Army in July 2000 serving in Korea, Fort Campbell , Ky., and Iraq. Christopher enjoyed traveling with his family ever since he was young and continued to enjoy it throughout his military career. He had a passion for weapons marksmanship, training and repair. His marksmanship carried over to the dart board and pool table. When at home, Chris was an avid online gamer and loved his dogs Boski and Rukia.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Floyd E. Vinson, Eugene C. Marquez and Modesta T. Marquez; aunts and uncles, Melody, nee Vinson, Frappier, Virgilio Nieves, Lydia Boyce, David Boyce, and Luis C. Rivera-Marquez.

Surviving are his mother and father, Eugenia and Gregory of Stafford, Va.; a brother, Daniel Vinson of Collinsville, Ill.; his grandparents, Patrick and Helen Ward of La Crosse, Wis.; his aunts and uncles, Steven D. (Sherri) Vinson of La Crosse, Paula Vinson of Onalaska, Wis., Nilsa Rivera of Puerto Rico, Joselino Nieves of Puerto Rico, David (Janice) Nieves of Ashtabula, Ohio, Eduardo Marquez of New Lyme, Ohio, Carlos L. Marquez of Rome, Ohio, Maria Marquez of Windsor, Ohio, and Edwin Marquez of Geneva, Ohio; cousins, Kara (Stephen) Wert of Holmen, Wis., Amber Vinson of Winona, Minn., Candace Frappier of Holmen, Wis., Justin (Amanda) Frappier of Fort Belvoir, Va., Kyle Smith of Onalaska, Wis., Serena Vinson of La Crosse, Rafael Nieves of Middletown, N.Y., Sandra Figuroa of Middletown, N.Y., David (Jodi) Nieves Jr. of Ashtabula, Ohio, Jason (Vanessa) Nieves of Las Vegas, Nev., Ryan Behner of Niles, Ohio, Bryan Behner of Dallas Texas, and Liza Suderman of Windsor, Ohio.

Christopher was loved and will be greatly missed by many family and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, and 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services, 200 West Avenue South, La Crosse, Wis.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services La Crosse Chapel with Monsignor Delbert Malin officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery, La Crosse, Wis.
