David Purviance
David Purviance, 55, of Benton, Kentucky, formerly of Belleville, Ill., born Sunday, September 15, 1957, in Decatur, Ill., died Sunday, January 20, 2013, at his residence in Benton, Ky.
David was a 1975 graduate of BTHS West, where he was a
member of the Scholar Quiz team. He attended the University of Illinois at Champaign and was a former employee of Steak n Shake, General Motors, Handleman Music, and Cerro Copper.
David was bright, curious, opinionated and a master of trivia. "He loved to debate everyone about everything." He enjoyed crossword puzzles, music, football, barbecuing, reading and "hanging out" with friends and family. We will miss his sense of humor, his amusing diatribes, and his gentle yet cranky spirit.
He was preceded in death by his father, Keith W. Purviance; his mother, Dr. Peggy J. Kirkpatrick; a brother, Douglas L. Purviance; a niece, Terri Purviance; and a cousin, Rick Hamilton.
Surviving are his sons, Dustin Purviance of Benton, Ky., Brandon Purviance of Benton, Ky., and Graeme Purviance of Arnold, Mo.; grandchildren, David Strong and twins to be born in August; sisters, Deborah (Kevin Kaufhold) Purviance of Belleville, Ill., and Diane (Marshall Baird) Purviance of Marissa, Ill.; step-mother, Carol Purviance of Belleville, Ill.; nieces, Jessica (Tony) Schneider, Julie Seymour and Coreen Kaufhold; great-nieces, Justis Brenning, Mia Lanier and Starlit Schneider; a great-nephew, Isaiah Schneider; aunts, Marjorie (Ron) Waeckerle, Betty (Tom) Threlkeld and Norma Lu (Bill) Brooks; an uncle, Jim (Sue) Kirkpatrick; and numerous cousins and friends.
