Wesley Krause Wesley G. "Wes" Krause, 79, of Swansea, Ill., born Monday, March 18, 1935, in Fairmont City, Ill., died Friday, Dec. 12, 2014, at Lebanon Care Center in Lebanon, Ill. Wes was a retired mail carrier and an Air Force veteran. He was preceded in death by his mother, Henrietta, nee Krause, Pitts; sister, Estherleen Krause; uncles, Kenneth Fraizer and Cardell Fraizer; and an aunt, Darlene Ranken. Surviving are his wife, JoAnn C., nee Wuench, Krause of Swansea, Ill.; children, Ed Krause of Freeburg, Ill., Deb (Jim) Thompson of Waterloo, Ill., Karen (Steve) Dick of Swansea, Ill., and Beverly (David) Eckell of Shiloh, Ill.; sisters-in-law, Carol Rives of Greenville, Ill., and Doris (George) Meisenheimer of Alton, Ill.; grandchildren, Zach, Ally, Mady and A.J. King, Charles E. - Granite City  
Charles King Charles E. "Charlie" King, 80, of Granite City, Ill., born Jan. 17, 1934, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Granite City, Ill., passed away Monday, Dec. 8, 2014 at Christian Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. He was a graduate of Granite City High School Class of 1952, and had worked at Mercantile Mortgage Company as a messenger and machine operator. The U.S. veteran volunteered for the draft, went into the Army in October 1953, and trained at Camp Chafee, Ark. as a Fire Direction Specialist. He was then sent to Fort Lewis, Wash., in Feb. 1954, and received his honorable discharge in October 1955. He was hired by Granite City Steel in January 1956 as a time card reader. He became the first inside trained computer programmer in June 1956 and was promoted to manager of information systems in 1963. He had designed the specifications for the computer control system for Granite City Steel's 80" hot strip. The unit began operation in July 1967 and was the most computer controlled hot strip mill in the world. He retired from National Steel - Granite City Plant in 1992. He was a dedicated and faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church, a member of St. Elizabeth Hospital Finance Committee for 25 years, a board member of 12 years and treasurer for 5 years of the GCS Credit Union; served as a past president of the Steel Industry Systems Association, honored as the Granite City Citizen of the Year in 1996, a past Rotary Club member and recipient of the Paul Harris Award, a charter member and secretary of Solid Granite for 10 years, a past board member of United Way and an avid supporter of the Granite City Scholarship Foundation. He enjoyed his days at the farm in Iberia and was always volunteering and contributing to make Granite City a great place to live. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a cherished friend to all who knew him. He will always be remembered for the love and special times shared with family and friends. His smile and gracious ways will forever be remembered. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jacquelyn R. "Jackie" King, nee Duenning, whom he married June 12, 1954, at the former Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granite City, Ill., and she passed away Feb. 15, 2011; his parents, Harry J. and Nora E., nee Schmitt, King; and a brother, Robert King. Surviving are his fine children, Nora King Foster, Kathryn (Barry) Watson, Dr. Charles E. "Chip" (Kim) King and Lydia King, all of Granite City, Ill.; his bunch of grandchildren, Jada, Calin, Hannah, Amy, Charles III, Thomas and Sam; a great-grandchild, Ahran; loving sister, Mary Ellen Stiert of Fairfield, Calif.; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. Elsie Koch Elsie W. Koch, 97, of Beckemeyer, Ill., born Jan. 18, 1917, in Beckemeyer, Ill., died Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2014, at Carlyle Healthcare Center in Carlyle, Ill. She graduated from the Brown Business College in St. Louis, Mo., and worked as a legal secretary for William Murphy in Carlyle, Ill. Elsie was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Breese, Ill., and enjoyed following politics, reading, and history. She also loved travelling, looking for arrowheads on the family farm, and ice skating. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Martha Koch; and siblings, Martha Koch, Doris (Amel) Ranz, Richard Koch, Herbert (Violet) Koch, Selma "Semmie" Koch. Surviving are two nephews, Donald and David Koch of Carlyle, Ill. Memorial donations in memory of Ms. Koch are suggested to St. John's United Church of Christ, St. John's Cemetery, or to the American Heart Association and will be received at the service or at Zieren Day Funeral Home. Vera Krupp Vera Krupp, nee Hoffman, 81, of Millstadt, Ill., born Oct. 5, 1933, in Belleville, Ill., passed away Sat., Dec. 6, 2014, at Oak Hill in Waterloo, Ill. Vera was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Millstadt, Ill. She helped her husband farm and drove a school bus for years. She was a gifted farm cook/baker and seamstress.
