Dean Sample Dean F. Sample, 80, of Cahokia, Ill., born July 8, 1935, in St. Louis, Mo., died Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at St. Anthony's Hospital, St. Louis, Mo. Dean was retired from Iron Workers Local 396 of St. Louis, Mo., and helped to build the Gateway Arch. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran. He was a St. Clair County Deputy Coroner for several years and was a former police commissioner for the Cahokia Police Department. He also was a member of Emeth Lodge 1030 A.F. & A.M. of Cahokia, Ill., and the Shriner's. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, nee McCullen, Sample; his parents, Harold and Ruby, nee Brown, Sample; and a sister, Shirley Ross. Surviving are his two daughters, Patricia (Kendall) Iglehart of Columbia, Ill., and Christine Wynne of St. Louis, Mo.; and a grandson, Ryan Wynne of Nashville, Tenn.; He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin, and friend. Sandor, Dorothy J. - O'Fallon  
Dorothy Sandor Dorothy J. Sandor "Dottie", "Dots" or "Smitty" born Dec. 22, 1929, Fults, Ill., died Sunday, May 22, 2016, at her daughter's residence. Dorothy was a 1948 graduate of East Side High School in East St. Louis, Ill., and a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, Belleville, Ill. Dorothy also served on the parish council, as Eucharistic minister, liturgy committee, and book club. Also many children and families who have fond memories of the baking of bread that was used during mass. She was a member of the Centering Prayer Group. She worked as a temporary for Sealtest Dairy in St. Louis, Mo. She was also a domestic engineer. Dorothy worked at Belleville Area College (Southwestern Illinois College) for the Programs and Services for Older Persons (PSOP) nutrition program and ran the Senior Center for 16 years. She began a new career in her 60's as the director for an in home care business that she ran for 10 years until her retirement. She loved her hobbies that included sewing, crafting, gardening, trips to the country, and spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen J. Sandor, whom she married on May 1, 1954, in East St. Louis, Ill. They were married 60 years before Stephen's passing in 2014; her daughter, Janice E. Sandor; her son, Philip J. Sandor; her parents, Ivah G. and Fred A. Schmidt; her brother, Harold Schmidt; and her sisters, Virginia Smock, Ruby Stromberg, and Mable Koderhandt. Surviving are her children, Stephanie (Michael) Kurtz, and Paula (John) Vogler; her grandchildren, Ryan Michael Kurtz, Sarah Jane Kurtz, and Phillip John Vogler; her many nieces, nephews and cousins; her Goddaughter, Laura Hartlein; and her dear friends, Dorothy (Wappel) Hamilton and Barbara Benson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at: www.kasslyfuneral.com . Heather Scott Heather M. Scott, nee Whitaker, 41, of House Springs, Mo., born Jan. 17, 1975, in Belleville, Ill., died Saturday, May 21, 2016, in Copley Township, Ohio. Heather was employed at Wells Fargo, formerly A. G. Edwards. She enjoyed cooking and attended L'Ecole Culinaire. Heather loved her cats and reading. Her greatest joy was being a mother and a wife. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert and Geraldine, nee Vandever, Justus, and Walter and Josephine, nee Popp, Whitaker; and an uncle, David Whitaker. Surviving are her husband, Ryan Scott; her daughter, Madison Scott; her parents, Walter J. Smothers, Larry G. - Granite City  
Larry Smothers Larry G. Smothers, 77, of Granite City, Ill., born Dec. 16, 1938, in St. Louis, Mo., passed away Friday, May 20, 2016, at Memorial Hospital East, Shiloh, Ill. Larry was a welder for over 30 years at Granite City Steel retiring in 1985. Larry was an Artist who enjoyed painting and dancing. He will be remembered for his kind heart and all the special times he shared with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn, nee Nowicki, Smothers; his son-in-law, Ben Schutzenhofer; his parents, Roy and Beulah, nee Garland, Smothers; and his sisters, Catherine, Virginia and Billie. He is survived by and will be missed by his daughters, Kimberly Schutzenhofer of O'Fallon, Ill., and Tracy Thompson of Carlinville, Ill.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Service: In celebration of his life, private graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 23, 2016, at Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo., with Pastor Charles West officiating.
