Irma Manning

Irma Manning, nee Portell, 90, of Granite City, Ill., born Dec. 10, 1919, in Cadet, Mo., passed away Sunday, July 11, 2010, at Gateway Regional Medical Center, Granite City, Ill.

Irma retired from Owens-Illinois after many years of dedicated service in the offices. She was a very active and dedicated member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Granite City, Ill., where she helped organize many events. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabelle, A.A.R.P. and Navy Mothers and enjoyed her days of traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Nicholas and Mary, nee Campbell, Portell; a brother, Walter Portell; and an infant sister, Doris Annette Portell.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas P. (Joan) Manning of St. Charles, Mo., and Michael P. (Elizabeth) Manning of Thornton, Pa.; six grandchildren, Mark Manning, Kevin Manning, Brian Manning, Shawn Manning, Megan Hudson, and Jennifer Spiller; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Leo (Florence) Portell of Sun City, Ariz.; and other extended family and friends.

Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or as Masses and may be accepted at the funeral home.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Irwin Maryville Road Chapel, Granite City, Ill., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral: Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Holy Family Catholic Church, Granite City, Ill., with Father Jeff Holten officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Edwardsville, Ill.
