Elmer W. Struckhoff, 93, of Swansea, Ill., born June 23, 1920, in Troy, Ill., died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, at the VA Medical Center in Marion, Ill.
Elmer was a World War II
veteran, serving in the D-Day battle in Normandy, France, on June 18, 1945, and in Germany until the end of the war. He was the recipient of two Purple Heart
s and four Battle Stars.
Elmer worked as an auto mechanic at Sears Roebuck in East St. Louis, Ill., for most of his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora, nee Clifford, Struckhoff; his son, Dennis Struckhoff; his infant daughter, Noreen; his parents, Charles and Elizabeth, nee Hoeney, Struckhoff; two sisters, Annie Struckhoff of Edwardsville, Ill., and Mamie Struckhoff Kropp of Tuscola, Ill.; and four brothers, Charles Struckhoff of Collinsville, Ill., August "Gussie" Struckhoff of Troy, Ill., Melvin Struckhoff of Granite City, Ill., and Raymond Struckhoff of Troy, Ill.
Other close family members who preceded him in death included nieces and nephews, John Foley of Bemidji, Minn., Maureen, nee Clifford, Blazak of Belleville, Ill., Jerry "Butch" Foley of O'Fallon, Ill., Honora Foley of Belleville, Ill., and Daniel Foley of Belleville, Ill.
Surviving members of his close family unit are nieces and nephews, JoAnn and Thomas Murphy of Belleville, Ill., Eddie and Sharon Foley of Caseyville, Ill., Thomas and Kathleen "Kitty", nee Foley, Kinkel of Troy, Ill., and Kathleen, nee Clifford, Kirksey of Granite City, Ill.; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and his best friend, Freeman Porter of Troy, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, at the funeral home with Father Matthew Elie officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
