Gary Hutchinson Sr.

Gary W. Hutchinson Sr., 67, of Granite City, Ill., born Dec. 1, 1946, in Granite City, Ill., passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Christian North East Hospital in St. Louis, Mo., with his family by his side.

Gary was a long time laborer at National Lead Industries in Granite City. The Army veteran proudly served his country in the Vietnam War, serving in the 1st Army Infantry Division known as the "Big Red One", where he earned a Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and attaining sharpshooter status. He was a member and a trustee at the Granite City VFW Post 1300 and enjoyed fishing and being outdoors working on his yard. Gary had a special love for his grandchildren and enjoyed spending every minute he could with them. Gary will be remembered for his authenticity and straight forward personality and will be missed by his entire family and all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ty Hutchinson; and his parents, Lee and Lovie, nee Fowler, Hutchinson.

He is survived by and will be missed by his wife, Mary Joe (Clark) Hutchinson, whom he married on Aug. 26, 1966; daughter, Tonya Crews (Mikey Larson) of Granite City; son, Gary (Vicki) Hutchinson Jr., of Glen Carbon; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Tori), Amber, Zack, Ty and Hannah; great-grandchildren, Jorden, Landon and Harper; brothers, Jerry Hutchinson, Charlie Hutchinson, and Robert Hutchinson; and his sister, Phyllis Strieunoski.

Memorials are suggested to the family of Gary Hutchinson.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: In celebration of his life services will be held at noon Monday, June 30, 2014, at the funeral home with Pastor Edward Linhart officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
