George Clements

George D. Clements, 84, of Granite City, Ill., born Feb. 19, 1930, in Cumberland City, Tenn., passed away Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at St. Louis University Hospital surrounded by his family.

Mr. Clements gave over 30 years to Granite City Steel as a pipe fitter, retiring in 1988. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry during the Korean War, serving in Company H, 19th Infantry Regiment where he earned a Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Star, a United Nations Service Medal and an Army Commendation Ribbon. He attended City Temple in Granite City and in his free time he enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Lorene, nee Powers, Clements.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley, nee Adams, Clements, whom he married on Nov. 7, 1953; and his daughters, Pam (John C.) McCord of Maryville, Ill., and Terri Clements of Granite City, Ill.

In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Cardinals Care, City Temple, New Rivers Assembly of God or Southern Illinois Hospice.

Visitation: In celebration of his life friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at City Temple, 4751 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at City Temple with Pastor Rich Cope and Pastor Kevin Wilson Jr. officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Mo.
