Jack E. Vizer, 84, of Granite City, Ill., born October 3, 1928, in Granite City, Ill., passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at Stearns Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, with his family by his side.
Jack served 38 years as an electrical technician for the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and in his last few years he worked on the Lock & Dam 26. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War; founded the Boy Scout Troop in Lincoln Place and was an active member for over 20 years. Jack loved the St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame football. He was so very proud of his Hungarian decent and thought of himself as a "Hunky". Jack will be remembered for the love of his family and the many special times shared together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Louis O. and Mary, nee Uhaus, Vizer Sr.; and a brother, Louis O. Vizer Jr.
Surviving are and will be missed by his wife, Olga Mary, nee Kudelka, Vizer; three children, Mark Vizer of Granite City, Ill., Sheila (Pastor Larry Blankley) of Granite City, Ill.; and Craig Vizer of Granite City, Ill.; three grandchildren, Loren Blankley of Granite City, Ill., Paul Blankley of Granite City, Ill., and Sarah Vizer of Granite City, Ill.; and a sister, Marie Jezioro of Mt. Vernon, Ill.
Memorials are suggested to the Cahokia Mounds Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 335 W. Main St. Belleville, IL. 62220.
Visitation: Friends may call on from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2013, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Johnson Road Baptist Church, 2033 Johnson Road, Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Johnson Road Baptist Church, Granite City, Ill., with Pastor Larry Blankley officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, Glen Carbon, Ill.
