James Signaigo

James Franklin "Frank" Signaigo, 88, formerly of Madison, Granite City and Glen Carbon, Ill., born July 4, 1925, in Madison, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2013, at John Cochran Veteran Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.

Frank proudly served four years in the United States Navy. On Oct. 16, 1948, Frank married Betty Hiller, the love of his life. She preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 1999. After Betty's passing, Frank moved to Viburnum, Mo., and made many dear friends. He was a member of Center Grove Presbyterian Church in Edwardsville, Ill. Frank was a fireman and had retired from the Granite City Fire Department and had worked as a meat cutter at several locations in the Granite City area. Frank was also a truancy officer and counseled children in the Coordinated Youth Program in Granite City. He was a mentor to many children; one special young man he mentored was Randy Sims. Frank enjoyed golfing with his many golf buddies. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Frank was very proud of his children and grandchildren, especially with his granddaughter Gennie, when she became the first girl Junior High wrestler in the Edwardsville School District. Frank will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; parents, Louis David and Genny Signaigo; two brothers, Ralph and Bill Signaigo; and a sister, Lela Kaula.

Surviving are his loving children, Louis "Chip" (Beatrice) Signaigo of Midwest City, Okla., and Bambi (Pat) Stephenson of Livingston, Ill.; two grandchildren, Heather Signaigo and Gennie Kuzma (fiance, Anthony Lieneman); three great-grandchildren, Cole Kuzma, Jesse Kuzma and Dylan Lieneman; beloved dogs and cat, Sissy, Tiny and Teeger; and his friends in Virburnum, Mo.

The family would like to send a thank you to Frank's caregiver, Gina Grant for the special care she had taken with Frank.
