Joseph E. Rybacki, 86, of Cahokia, Ill., born March 6, 1927, in Radom, Ill., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2013, at Columbia Convalescent Center.
Mr. Rybacki served in the 3rd Infantry, U.S. Army, where he attained the rank of corporal. He was on the front line during the Korean War
, where he volunteered to carry a BAR, serving his country. He was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia, Ill. He retired from General Motors
after 30 years of service. He enjoyed spending time on his farm in Radom, Ill., where he enjoyed hunting, gardening and spending time with family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary L., nee Barnowski, Rybacki; a son, Dennis Rybacki; parents, Leo and Josephine, nee Sodka, Rybacki; brothers, Edward and Tony Rybacki; and four sisters, Mary Welniak, Barbara Kuberski, Clara Rybacki and Theresa Sturgeon.
Surviving are his daughter, Shirley (Dr. John) Touchette of Millstadt, Ill.; brothers, Louis (Margaret) Rybacki of St. Louis, Mo., Leonard (Judy) Rybacki of DuQuoin, Ill., and Eugene Rybacki of Nashville, Ill.; sister, Irene Miller of Arkansas; sister-in-law, Patricia Bunk of Scheller, Ill.; grandchildren, Matthew Touchette of Millstadt, Ill., Adam Touchette, machinist mate second class, of King Bay, Ga., Dawn (Mike) Presson of Cahokia, Ill., and Dana Rybacki (fiance, Andrew). Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, 2013, and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at Braun Family Funeral Home, Columbia, Ill. A prayer service will be at 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Funeral: A funeral procession will leave at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, from Braun Family Funeral Home, for a 10 a.m. Mass at Holy Family Catholic Church, Cahokia, Ill., with Father Paul Wienhoff officiating. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Cemetery in Radom, Ill.
