Juanita Bauchens
Juanita B. Bauchens, 90, of Highland, Ill., born Sunday, Sept. 9, 1923, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014, at St. Joseph Hospital in Highland, Ill.
Juanita was born and reared in Idaho Falls, Idaho. She left Idaho Falls in 1941 at age 17 to marry her husband. She worked at a potato plant (making dehydrated potatoes for the U.S. troops) later working for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, St. Louis, Mo., during World War II. She lived in E. St. Louis, Ill., from 1941 to 1947 moved to Caseyville, Ill., and in 1968 moved to Highland, Ill. She and her husband enjoyed travelling and taking cruises together. She was a great seamstress. She made doll clothes for her great-granddaughters. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and painting in oils of landscapes and still life. In her later years she enjoyed reading mystery novels. She researched and wrote the entire family's genealogy.
She was a member of the VFW Post 1117 Ladies Auxiliary in Caseyville, Ill., and PTA of Bluffview Park School in Caseyville, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Bauchens, whom she married on May 31, 1941, and who died Sept. 2, 2010; parents, LaFayette "Lafe" and Lillian I., nee Anderson, Baker; a son-in-law, Bill Schodroski; a grandchild, Shad Bauchens; a brother, Jose Baker; and a brother-in-law, Travis Mills.
Surviving are her children, Robert N. (Portia) Bauchens of Hampshire, Ill., Jeannette Schodroski of Highland, Ill., Steven C. (Dongling Zhang) Bauchens of Maryville, Ill., and Michael D. (Charlotte Duso) Bauchens of Edwardsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Col. Eric (Lynn) Crawly, MD, U.S. Army, Kailua, Hawaii, Amy (significant other-Eric) Bauchens of Kailua, Hawaii, Adam (Amanda) Bauchens of Kirkland, Ill., Trevor Bauchens of Rhode Island, Regina (Tom) Hladick of Bella Vista, Ark., Caitlin (Branson) Nichel of Minnesota, Allison Bauchens of Edwardsville, Ill., and Madilyn Bauchens of Edwardsville, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Bennett Hladick, Amelia Hladick, Silas Hladick, Tylor Evans, Rhyan Smith, Brady Nichel, Madison Crawley, Skyler Crawley, Kaylee Bauchens and Hunter Bauchens; brothers, Ronald Baker of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Marlin (Pat) Baker of Blackfoot, Idaho; sister, Betty Mills of Inkom, Idaho; sister-in-law, Violet Baker of Puyallup, Wash.; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Ill., and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Highland, Ill., with Rev. Christopher W. Hill, Senior Pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, Ill.
