Lonnie Ray Sherfy, 67, of Granite City, Ill., born July 28, 1946, in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away at 12:05 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Sherfy retired in 2002 from National Steel after 37 years of dedicated service as a millwright. The United States Army
veteran proudly served his country during the Vietnam War
and was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars
, Disabled American Veterans and the AMVETS. He was a member of Word of Life Tabernacle and enjoyed his days of fishing, camping, tending to his yard, gardening and reading and loved his many trips to Dover. He will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Ailene, nee Lewis, Sherfy; two brothers, Wilson and Lester; and two sisters, Mae and Hazel.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 47 years, Mary Emma, nee Whitehead, Sherfy, whom he married on Dec. 17, 1966, in Madison, Ill.; two daughters and a son-in-law, Vicki Sherfy of Granite City and Pamela and Todd Koenig of Granite City; five grandchildren, Brett Fowler, Ashley Koenig, Megan Koenig, Kaitlin Koenig and Kirsten Koenig; brother, Roy Sherfy of Collinsville; five sisters and four brothers-in-law, Suee Warren of Granite City, Donna and Larry Turner of Ohio, Mary Milton of California, Shirley and Jack Pilger of Staunton and Dianne and Paul Hollis of Granite City; and many nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at the funeral home with Rev. Henry Crippen officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates in Glen Carbon, Ill.
