Louis John Baczewski, 90, of Collinsville, Ill., born Nov. 7, 1922, in Pocahontas, Ill., passed away at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2013, at his residence.
Louis was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Ill. He was retired from Consolidated Aluminum in Venice, Ill. He was a World War II Army
veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star
and the Good Conduct Medal, he served in the battle of the bulge, five major campaigns in the European Theatre and was a tank driver. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 1712 in Collinsville, Ill., member of the Polish War veterans, was an avid fisherman, gardener, hunter, winemaker, cook and baker.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Alexandria, nee Minczkowski, Baczewski; a grandson, Michael Tongay; and two brothers, Joe and Edward.
Surviving are his wife, Helen May, nee Tutka, Baczewski, whom he married April 3, 1948; three sons, Stanley (Judy) Baczewski of Collinsville, Ill., John (Carol) Baczewski of Carlyle, Ill., and David (Cara) Baczewski of Moscow Mills, Mo.; two daughters, Rose Ann (Charlie) Lingua of St. Louis, Mo., and Mary Kay (Paul) Tongay of Caseyville, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Ann, Andy, Sara, Chris, Joe, Nicholas and Jonathon; six great-grandchildren, Louis, Wyatt, Jack, Jayden, Kylie and Michael; numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home, 2800 North Center Street, Maryville, Ill. The Polish American War Veterans will stand honor guard from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Funeral: Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 2013, at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Collinsville, Ill., with Father John Beveridge celebrant. Burial with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery in Edwardsville, Ill.
