Richard Fred Buch, 63, and Connie Sue Buch, 67, of Red Bud, Ill., were called home to Heavenly rest on Aug. 30, 2013, after a fatal car accident. Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident due to fatal injuries.
Richard was born Oct. 19, 1949, to Erwin and Irene Buch of Red Bud, Ill. He was born again through water and the Word of God in Holy Baptism on Nov. 6, 1949, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Prairie, Ill. He confirmed the faith he received at his baptism on April 7, 1963, at Trinity Lutheran in Prairie, Ill. His confirmation verse was John 14:6. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene Buch.
Richard worked at Southwestern Illinois Bus Company in Chester, Ill., as a mechanic. He also worked at Weir Chevrolet as a mechanic for over 20 years. He was drafted into the United States Army
and served during the Vietnam War
from April 1970 to March 1971. Richard was a member of the Baldwin American Legion Post, and served as an elder at St. John Lutheran Church in Baldwin, Ill. He was also known to extend a helping hand as a mechanic to those in need.
Connie was born March 12, 1946, to Robert and Florence Rains of Red Bud, Ill. She was born again through water and the Word of God in Holy Baptism on April 21, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Prairie, Ill. She confirmed the faith she received at her baptism on April 10, 1960. Her confirmation verse was Romans 8:28. Connie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, R.C. Rains.
Connie was active in Lutheran Women's Missionary League, St. John's Ladies Aid, St. John's Board of Stewardship and Vacation Bible School. Connie lovingly cared for her family and grandchildren, and formerly worked as a teacher's aide at Trinity Prairie Preschool, and at First Bank as a teller. She enjoyed scrapbooking and crocheting.
Richard and Connie were joined in holy matrimony on Feb. 3, 1973, at Trinity Lutheran Church with the Rev. Kuring officiating. They brought up three boys during their union, Todd Alan Burmester, Scott Allan Burmester and Dean Allen Buch. For Richard and Connie, spending time with family was of foremost importance, including their very extended family.
For the past 25 years, Richard and Connie were active with Lutheran Marriage Encounter. They dedicated countless hours to this organization in which they touched and helped others renew and strengthen their marriage vows and their commitment to their children. Through Lutheran Marriage Encounter, they helped spouses rediscover the person they fell in love with.
Surviving are their children, Todd (Hollie) Burmester of Olympia, Wash., Scott Burmester of Red Bud, Ill., and Dean (Nicole) Buch of Sparta, Ill.; Richard's father, Erwin Buch; Richard's siblings, Norma Buch, Carol (Don) Crabill, Gerald (Maggie) Buch of Steeleville, Ill., Roger (friend, Carol Schulein) Buch, Donny (Chris) Buch, Lorna (Keith) Kinzel, Marian (Roderick) Groetecke, Darrell Buch, and David Buch, all of Red Bud, Ill.; Connie's siblings, Diane (Norman) Roy of Red Bud, Ill., and David (Theresa) Seemann of Red Bud, Ill.; and their grandchildren, Emily Burmester, Tyler Buch, Rayven Hodges, Brendan Baranowski, Cameron and Landon Buch; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials, in loving memory of Richard and Connie, can be made to the following charitable organizations, Lutheran Marriage Encounter Dream Fund, Rev. Tim and Lisa Beckendorf of Lutheran Bible Translators in Botswana, Africa, and St. John Ev. Lutheran Church of Baldwin, Ill.
Visitation: Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013, and from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Baldwin, Ill., with the Rev. John M. Taggatz officiating.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at the church. Their bodies will be laid to rest at St. John Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in Baldwin, Ill., to await the resurrection at the end of the age.
