William Jennings
William "Bill" Jennings, 79, of Granite City, Ill., passed away Monday, August 4, 2014, at 4:32 p.m. at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill.
He was born Oct. 21, 1934, in Dixon, Mo., a son of the late Emmett and Viola (Null) Jennings.
On July 2, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Fannie Roark, in Dixon, Mo. They celebrated 59 years of marriage. Bill retired in 1992 after 37 years of working for Granite City Steel - National Steel as a production supervisor. Bill held a commercial pilot and flight instructor license. He was a former flight instructor for Belleville Area College and was the former owner of Lakeside Airport. Bill also was a prior owner and operator for many years of laundromats in Granite City and Dixon, Mo.
From 1990 to 2005, Bill volunteered his time and talents to the community program "Christmas in April" now referred to as "Rebuilding Together", having served as President and on the Board of Directors. In addition, Bill shared his love of community and his fellow man by working with the Granite City Breakfast Ministry, providing food to those less fortunate. Since his retirement, Bill and Fannie have traveled extensively visiting all 50 states either from their plane or motorhome.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil (Trudy) Jennings of Granite City and Clarence (Margaret) Jennings of Richland, Mo.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy (Robert) Lieurance of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; a niece, Brenda (Joe)Rulo of Grafton, Ill.; three nephews, Donald Jennings of East Alton, Ill., Ronald Jennings of Collinsville, Ill., and Dennis (Nancy) Jennings of Richland, Mo.; three great nieces; three great-great nephews; one great-great niece; numerous extended family and many wonderful friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Sue; a nephew, Gerald Lieurance and a great-great niece, Emma Miramontes.
Memorials may be made to the Granite City Breakfast

Visitation: In celebration of his life, visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, Ill.
Funeral: Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. August 7, 2014, at Dixon City Cemetery in Dixon, Mo.
