Yvonne Marie Martinich, 46, of Swansea, Ill., born March 10, 1967, at Hill Air Force Base, Utah, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2013, at the home of her parents in Swansea, Ill., surrounded by her loving family.
Yvonne graduated from Belle Valley School, Belleville Township High School East, Class of 1985, and the University of Illinois
, Class of 1990 with a bachelor of science in elementary education before receiving her Master of Arts degree in educational studies with reading emphasis from McKendree University. She is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
Ms. Martinich was a middle school teacher
for Belle Valley School District 119 in Belleville, Ill. Initially, she taught elementary grades in the Alief School District in Houston, Texas, before coming to Belle Valley 119. She was a member of St. Peter's Cathedral Parish, Belleville, Ill., where she assisted in many fundraisers, taught in the parish School of Religion, and served as an Extraordinary Minister.
Yvonne was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in late 2010 and breast cancer
in 2012. After two and a half years and many chemotherapy treatments, she lost her courageous battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her uncle, Robert P. Lussy of Missoula, Mont.; her aunt, Jeanette A. Martinich of Butte, Mont.; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Lussy and Mr. and Mrs. Matthew F. Martinich, all of Butte, Mont.
Surviving are her parents, Raymond J. Martinich Sr. and Yvonne T. "Bonnie," nee Lussy, Martinich of Swansea, Ill.; a brother, Raymond J. Jr. (Catherine) Martinich of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Christine M. (Scott) Oldani of O'Fallon, Ill.; two nephews, Dominic Oldani and Raymond J. Martinich III; a niece, Olivia Oldani; two uncles, Frank R. Martinich of Butte, Mont., and Charles H. Lussy (Mary Anna) of Westminster, Calif.; and many cousins.
Many thanks go out to those who made Yvonne's life beautiful throughout. First, gratitude goes to the entire Belle Valley administrative staff, the teachers with whom she interfaced daily, and the custodial staff. Secondly, thank you to the medical staff at Barnes Jewish Hospital, the Siteman Cancer Treatment Center in St. Louis, Mo., and the staff at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill. Lastly, our St. Peter's Cathedral Staff who satisfied her spiritual needs during this time - thank you. God bless you all.

Funeral: A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at St. Peter's Cathedral, Belleville, Ill., with Monsignor John T. Myler officiating. Burial will be private.
