Marwin Doherty

Marwin T. Doherty, 89, of Tampa, Fla., formerly of Collinsville, Ill., born Aug. 4, 1922, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011.

Mr. Doherty was very active with the Collinsville School Board, being on the school Board or President of the school board from 1960 through 1972. He was also a member of the Collinsville American Legion for 30 years. Some of his hobbies included golfing and swimming. Marwin was a U.S. Navy veteran serving his country from 1942 through 1945. He graduated from Northwestern University with a civil engineering degree in 1945. Upon graduating he worked for Southwestern Bell from 1947 through 1984 in various capacities in operator services and labor negotiations.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marienne Doherty; his second wife, Alicia Doherty; and his parents, Marvin and Winifred Doherty.

Surviving are his sons, Timothy (Karen) Doherty of Collinsville, Ill., Patrick Doherty of Dallas, Texas and Michael (JoAnn) Doherty of Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren, Timothy (Sara) Doherty, Paul Doherty, Chris Doherty, Matthew Doherty, Nathan Doherty, and Kyle Doherty; and two great-grandchildren, Timothy, Thomas.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Herr Funeral Home, 501 West Main Street, Collinsville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at Herr Funeral Home. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Glen Carbon, Ill.
