Carl Veach

Carl F. Veach, 81, of Belleville, Ill., born May 7, 1933, in Vienna, Ill., died Monday, July 21,2014, at his residence.

Mr. Veach held a Bachelor's degree from Northern Colorado University and a Master's

and Specialist's Degrees from SIUE. Along with his time in the classroom, Carl was well known for his contributions to the educational community. He served as president of the Illinois Vocational Association, president of the Illinois Council of Local Administrators, member of the board for the Regional Office of Education, and was the O'Fallon Extension Center Coordinator for SWIC (formerly Belleville Area College). His involvement brought many accolades throughout his career. Carl also served as president, and later CEO, of Belleville Mental Health, later known as Mid-America Behavior Health. His dedication to this group led to him being a 1992 recipient of the SIUE Carol Kimmel Community Leadership Award.Carl was a member of the American Legion, having served in the United States Air Force from 1953-1957. By far, his greatest joy was his grandchildren. He spent his later years enjoying every moment he could with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John D. and Marguerite, nee Pruett, Veach; a brother, Nathan L. Veach; four brothers-in-law, Ben Lucash, Theodore "Ted" Gundlach, Henry Brattensborg, and Ed Nowling; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Lucash and Beverly Veach; his aunt, Olive Lamkin, who raised him; and several nieces and nephews.

Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Laura L., nee Bann, Veach, whom he married on July 4, 1992; a son, Bruce A. Veach of Belleville, Ill.; a daughter, Pamela M. (Pete) Stempora of Naperville, Ill.; a step-daughter, Elizabeth (Charles) Hellrung of Troy, Ill.; seven grandchildren; a brother, John W. (Mary Lee) Veach of Goreville, Ill.; three half-sisters, Mary Virginia Nowling of Washington, Ind., Betty (Delbert) Caraker of Marion, Ill., and Irma Jonna Veach of Chatham, Ill.; a half-brother, Lloyd (Terry) Veach of Washington, Ind.; two cousins, Louise Potts of Eatonville, Wash., and Margie (Dave) Till of Marietta, Ga.; three sisters-in-law, Patricia A. Gundlach of Belleville, Ill., Elizabeth (Jack) Liberty of Annandale, Va., and Ruth Brattensborg of Sartell, Minn.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Unity Hospice of Greater St. Louis, to the Belleville Philharmonic Society, or to the charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at: www.rennerfh.com.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2014, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at the funeral home.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2014, at George Renner and Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., with Rev. Robert Dyer and Msgr. John Myler officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
