William Fink

William Ralph "Bill" Fink, 46, of Belleville, Ill., born July 28, 1969, in Belleville, Ill., encountered an unhandled exception in his core operating system, which prematurely triggered a critical "STOP" condition on Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2015.

Bill was an avid technophile, program developer, and educator, whose master functions were harnessed by Microsoft Corp. as a technical evangelist. Some of Bill's most impactful component subroutines centered around video games, coaching youth sports, building elaborate displays for Halloween, and spending time with family.

Bill is survived in legacy by his wife, Rhonda Michele, nee Gardiner, Fink of Belleville, Ill.; his children, Cassidy Gardiner and William John Fink of Belleville, Ill.; his parents, William and Nancy, nee Kaiser, Fink of Las Vegas, Nev.; his brothers, Michael and Matthew (Kelly) Fink of Las Vegas, Nev.; and a host of loving in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins, and longtime friends from around the world.

Diagnostics indicated multiple cascading hardware failures as the root problem. Though his hardware has been decommissioned, Bill's application has been migrated to the Cloud and has been repurposed to run in a virtual machine on an infinite loop.

What's really interesting is *I* am (another) "Bill Fink" that has a background and personality that is SO close to Bill's, it's amazing and uncanny.

I did not know Bill. I only found out about his death through the wonderful tribute to his life as described in his obit. He must have been a wonderful person with a great sense of humor to have such a light hearted obit. I hope that you all feel the wonderful gift he gave to you each and every day and I thank you for allowing me to have "met" Bill through this obit. I don't know anything about the surroundings of his death - but I would have to agree with one of the other posts that "the cloud" is now a better place because he is there.

I just learned of Bill's passing. He was my classmate at Whiteside School in Belleville. In the last year or so, we re-connected online after many years. He said he always remembered my birthday because his was a month to the day after mine. Bill was a good man. I am so sorry for the loss. May light perpetual shine upon him.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Bill's passing. I'm so glad I had the good fortune and pleasure of being in his class at SWIC. He taught with so much passion it was impossible not to be inspired by him. May you all find peace in knowing how many futures he inspired in his too short life.

Along with Leo 'theTechGuy' Laporte and thousands of Leo's followers, I heard of the tragic loss of Mr. Fink in the closing monuments of Episode 539 of Security Now dated Tuesday December 22, 2015. Very sad to hear the news about Bill, however I know he is in a better place. I had the privilege of meeting him at Daugherty Business Solutions. After a while I found out that we both taught classes over at SWIC, so we had something in common. He was one of the best technical speakers I had the pleasure of meeting with a knack for breaking technology down so everyone could understand. Bill, you will certainly be missed.

Bill was an inspiration to Patrick and I. His family was our family. Michele, Bill, John, and Cassidy where a second family to Patrick and welcomed him with open arms. Patrick played baseball and football with John and Bill had coached Patrick in baseball for a few years. Years that will never be forgotten. Bill was a great friend, coach, father and husband. He will be greatly missed by all. He now has his wings and he can watch over us all. Thank you for all you hard work.
