Alan Skirball

Dr. Alan Skirball, M.D., FACS, 92, of Queen Creek, Ariz., born Sept. 11, 1923, in Dayton, Ohio, passed away Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016.

Dr. Skirball served in the Army Air Corp's 334th Fighter Squadron as a Second Lieutenant from April 1944 to December 1945. He was awarded the Air Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster during his service. He attended Ohio State University for his Bachelor's degree, and his Doctor of Medicine. He did his internship and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo. He practiced OB/GYN medicine in Granite City, Ill., and Glen Carbon, Ill., and was on staff at St. Elizabeth's (now Gateway Regional) Medical Center in Granite City, Ill., Oliver C. Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Ill., and Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. Mo., and was board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. After he retired, he and Betty eventually moved to Boca Raton, Fla. He was a member of Temple Shaare Emeth in St. Louis, Mo., an avid golfer and former member of Sunset Hills Country Club in Edwardsville, Ill.

He was the younger of two children born to Rudolph and Zehrel, nee Pinner, Skirball. Dr. Skirball married Betty Jean, nee Greene, Skirball on Sept. 15, 1949, and she preceded him in death in 2010.

Surviving are three children, Richard (Donna) Skirball of Granite City, Ill., Sally Skirball (Gary Hyduke) of Chandler, Ariz., and William (Peggy) Skirball of Holly Springs, N.C. He has two grandchildren, Alicia, nee Skirball, (Alex) Tosspon of O'Fallon, Ill., and Richard (Hannah) Skirball Jr., of Granite City, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Samuel Skirball, Noah Skirball, Vivienne Skirball and Oliver Tosspon.

Services: A private family service will be held at Jefferson Barracks Memorial Cemetery, St. Louis, Mo.
