Alberta June Cox, 97, of Baldwin, Ill., born July 13, 1919, in Carbondale, Ill., passed away at 1:16 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016 in New Athens Home of The Aged, New Athens, Ill.
Alberta had been a school teacher at Sparta Grade School, Sparta, Ill., and an office worker for Carbondale Creamery. She was a member of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Sparta, Ill., and she enjoyed sewing quilts, traveling, playing cards, reading, keeping a daily diary and going to Sparta Senior Center every day they were open.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Russell Cox, whom she married Oct. 7, 1950, in Carbondale, Ill., and who preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 2008; parents, Alex and Susie, nee Lauer, Benz; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Homer and Marguerite Benz, and Raymond and Stella Benz; and a sister, Mildred Benz.
Surviving are a son, Gerald Cox of Baldwin, Ill.; and eight nieces and nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 12:30 until 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2016, at Hill Prairie Cemetery, Sparta, Ill.
Funeral: A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2016 at the cemetery with Rev. Sam Foskey and Pastor Dave Hoffelmeyer officiating.
