A 35-year-old East St. Louis man remains in the St. Clair County Jail in lieu of $1.5 million bond after he was charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of another East St. Louis man Sunday night at an apartment complex outside Belleville.
Delshannon T. McNeese is accused of stabbing Andrew Hankins, 32, of the 2100 block of St. Louis Avenue, in East St. Louis, at an apartment in unincorporated St. Clair County, said Capt. Steve Johnson, the Sheriff's Department's chief investigator.
Sheriff's deputies were called to the apartment at 217 Freedom Drive, which is leased to another person, at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday, where they found Hankins unconscious on the floor and bleeding from several stab wounds, Johnson said.
"One of the stab wounds punctured his heart area," Johnson said.
An ambulance crew rushed Hankins to Belleville Memorial Hospital, where he later died, Johnson said.
Johnson declined to discuss the factors leading up to the stabbing, which McNeese allegedly committed with a pocket knife in front of several witnesses.
