Bernice Samoska Obituary
Bernice Samoska

Bernice Virginia Samoska, 89, of Maryville, Ill., born Aug. 18, 1927 in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016 at Eden Village Care Center in Glen Carbon, Ill., and celebrated her birthday in heaven with her husband, Walter, and her Lord and Savior.

Bernice was a devoted homemaker and at one time was a bookkeeper for a local brewery. She was a member of Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church of Maryville and a faithful member of the Altar Society. Having suffered a stroke many years ago, Bernice was thankful she remained able-minded and active. She loved working in her yard and was meticulous in everything she did. She loved crocheting, painting, she was a talented seamstress, enjoyed playing cards and Boggle, loved to bake, was her daughters softball coach, and was an avid Cardinals fan. Most of all she enjoyed being with her family and her dogs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter O. "Ozzie" Samoska, whom she married on Oct. 22, 1949; her parents, Cornelius and Mary, nee Ernst, Reiniger; a son, Wally Samoska; a sister, Dolores Holliday; and a brother, Eugene Reiniger.

Surviving are her two daughters, Victoria (Rick) Gurley of Maryville, Ill., and Christine (Larry) Maggio of Maryville, Ill.; a son, Stanley (Deborah) Samoska of Glen Carbon, Ill.; six grandchildren, Amy (Kyle Sombke) Gurley of Monmouth, Ill., Jeffrey (Michelle) Samoska of Denver, Colo., Zach (Logan) Maggio of Maryville, Ill., Taylor Maggio of Maryville, Ill., Adam and Sarah Samoska of Glen Carbon, Ill.; two great-grandchildren. Jake and Luke; a sister, Alvera "Sally" Ruffner of Fairview Heights, Ill.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Mother of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and Alzheimer's Research and will be accepted at the funeral home. For condolences, go to barrywilsonfuneralhome.com
