Carol Ann Rukavina, 80, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born Oct. 16, 1935, in East St. Louis, Ill., passed away Sunday, Aug. 28, 2016, after a short illness with cancer.
Carol Ann was a retired physical therapy assistant. She loved to travel, read and work crossword puzzles. She visited Germany, Ireland, and France and traveled to Alaska as well as many states with her son, Jon, and his family. Carol Ann owned a houseboat in Florida, and enjoyed a lot of great times.
She was preceded in death by her former spouse, Anthony Rukavina; her daughters, Jody Weiss, and Angela Rukavina; her parents Val and Kathryn, nee Fitzpatrick, Steppacher; her daughter-in-law, Tracy Rukavina; and her sister, Brenda Kirsch.
Surviving are her children, Toni Marie (Dan) Hornbostel, Patti Sue Wagner, Jon Anthony (Debbie) Rukavina, Carrie Rukavina, Val Anthony (Diane) Rukavina, and Paul Anthony Rukavina; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Marilyn Magac, and Jeanine Strader; and her brother-in- law, Ray Kirsch. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their love, care, and compassion to include her first grandchild, Tina Marie Clifton; her nurses, Kathy Kohlmeier, and Connie Blazier; her spiritual adviser, Daniel Simonton; and her social worker, Julie Richison.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2016, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.
Funeral: A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Pastor Chris Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
