Mr. Chad Matthews, 31, of Nashville, Ill., born Aug. 10, 1978, in Camp Pendelton, Calif., departed this life at 8 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at the Allen Branch Recreation Complex on Carlyle Lake due to an accidental drowning.
Chad graduated from McKendree College with a degree in Industrial Arts. He worked as a union contractor and was currently employed at the Prairie State Energy Campus in rural Washington County, Ill. Chad enjoyed skydiving and had a love of the outdoors. He enjoyed going camping and fishing.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Joshua Matthews; maternal grandmother, Myrtle Recker; paternal grandfather, Charles B. Matthews Jr. and paternal grandmother, Maryanna Matthews.
Surviving are his son, Keegan Matthews of Centralia, Ill.; his father, Randy Matthews of Okawville, Ill.; his mother, Becky, nee Recker, Just and husband Pete of Simpsonville, S.C.; a sister, Angie Matthews of Simpsonville, S.C.; maternal grandfather, Robert Recker of Ava, Ill.; a nephew, Nicholas Matthews; aunts, uncles, other relatives as well as a host of friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 9, 2010, and from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville, Ill.
Funeral: Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Campagna Funeral Home, Okawville, Ill., with Father Jack Joyce officiating. In accordance with the wishes of the family, cremation was performed. Interment of ashes will be in the St. Barbara Catholic Cemetery, Okawville, Ill.
