Charles Etling Sr.

Charles John "Charlie" Etling, Sr., of New Baden, Ill., born Jan. 10, 1942, in Belleville, Ill., passed away peacefully Saturday, July 23, 2016, under the care of the nurses and staff of Breese Hospital and Heartland Hospice.

He fought a brave and courageous one year battle against pancreatic cancer, and in his words, "Just doing what he HAD to do". He was employed by Mascoutah schools as a custodian for 32 years. He retired early and was recently employed with Adam's Auction and Real Estate Services an additional 20 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav J. and Elsie M., nee Richardson, Etling; two brothers, Orville Etling and Lloyd Etling; his in-laws, Herbert and Emma Dawson; and his best friend and loyal companion, Tessie.

He is survived by and missed by his loving wife, Loretta, nee Dawson, Etling, whom he married June 30,1962, and recently celebrated 54 years of marriage; his children, Charles J. "Chip" (Melinda) Etling, Jr. of Mascoutah, Ill., and Kristin J. (Daniel) Etling, of Mascoutah, Ill. Charlie was a proud Papa of six much loved grandchildren, Charles J. "Chas" Etling III, Bryce D. Etling, Maddie S. Chapman, Grace K. Etling, Myles D. Etling, and Trent L. Erdmann; his brother-in- law, sisters-in- law, nieces, nephews, cousins, best friends and co-workers.
