Dale Levitt

Dale Levitt, 80, of Champaign, Ill., born June 28, 1933, in Effingham, Ill., went to be with his Lord and Savior at 3:10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, at home with Carle Hospice and surrounded by family.

Dale's formal education was limited and his business interests were varied. He was a sheet metal worker by trade, and was involved in building construction in all areas of Illinois. Dale's interests in agriculture included owning three farms and raising thousands of hogs, from farrow to finish. At age 15, Dale served in the Illinois National Guard and later in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard "Pepper" and Mabel, nee Sweazy, Levitt; his sisters, Betty, nee Levitt, Bush and Emily, nee Levitt, Hayhurst; brother-in-law, Ernest "Bud" Bush; and half sister, Linda Levitt.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Gloria, nee Perry, Levitt, whom he married on April 7, 1956; two children, Theresa (Randy) Parr of Illiopolis, and Howard Levitt of Springfield; three grandsons, Eric Slaughter (Sara Smith) of Champaign, Matthew (Justine) Parr of O'Fallon, both serving in the U. S. Air Force, and Joshua (Callie) Parr of Chatham; seven great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Aidon Slaughter, Stella Rose and Townes Parr, Aurelia and Angleo Parr, and Erica Smith; his brothers, Marvin Levitt of Modesto, Calif., Clark Levitt and Charles Levitt of Effingham; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Dale loved his wife and family from the youngest to the oldest, along with his beloved dog, Captain.

Funeral: Burial and graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2013, at Oakridge Cemetery, Effingham, Ill. Pall Bearers are, Eric Slaughter, Joshua Parr, Randy Parr, Clark Levitt, and William "Boonie" Knott. Pastor Joe Barth of Meadowbrook Community Church will be officiating and "Amazing Grace" will be played by Joshua Parr on the violin.
