Daniel "Dan" William Lugge, 61, of Belleville, Ill., born March 12, 1952, fifth son of Wilbert and Agnes Lugge, peacefully died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, surrounded by family at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Belleville, Ill. He struggled and lost his life to a recent stroke after battling and winning the war against brain cancer.
He worked as an automobile salesman at many dealerships, most recently at Oliver C. Joseph in Belleville, Ill. He enjoyed Italian food, pool, and throwing washers, and had acquired many friends throughout the years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy, nee Laut, Lugge, whom he married on March 14, 1987; his infant sister, Donna Marie Lugge; and parents, Wilbert and Agnes, nee Kreke, Lugge.
Surviving are his children Becky (Mike) Evans, Christy (Rick) Range, Chris Lugge, Tia (Josh) Sommers, Jason (Jennifer) Laut, and Scott Johnson; his siblings Wilbert "Bill" (Kathy) Lugge, Gerald "Gary" (Judy) Lugge, Thomas (Joan) Lugge, Michael (Connie) Lugge, Sandra Ledbetter, Randy Lugge, and Rick Lugge; 12 grandchildren; many nephews, nieces, and cousins; and his best friend, Bill Barringer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in c/o Rick Lugge or Jason Laut.
Our special thanks is extended to all the helping hands of the hospital and hospice staff. Dan donated his eyes to help others see and enjoy the beauty of life. He will be missed and his memories will be shared with many.
Visitation: Friends may call between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2013, at St. Luke's Church, Belleville, Ill.
Funeral: Private family graveside services will be held at a later date.
