David J. Abram, 67, of Glen Carbon, Ill., born Dec. 18, 1948 in Alton, Ill., passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family.
David was a millwright at U.S. Steel retiring in March of 2010. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a huge outdoorsman who enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and bee keeping. He gave 21 years to the Glen Carbon Fire Department attaining the rank of assistant chief. He was very patriotic in giving his time and efforts to fund raising for veterans. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Keysport American Legion and Bethel United Methodist Church in Glen Carbon. Dave will be remembered for his giving heart and all the special times he shared with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel J. Abram and George J. Abram; a niece, Amy Abram; and a nephew Jeremy Cook.
He is survived by and will be missed by his wife, Robin, nee Harnetiaux, Abram, whom he married on May 4, 1996; his parents, George E. and Norma L., nee Kuhn, Abram; his children, Andrea Abram of Granite City, Anna and (Aaron) Snyder of Billings, Mont., Danielle Abram of Hilo, Hawaii, and Douglas and (Kelly) Bertrand of Worden, Ill.; grandchildren, Ariel Abram, Jade Smith, Javan Snyder, Leah Snyder, Audrey Bertrand, Ava Bertrand, and Alyssa Bertrand; brother, Mark and (Shannon) Abram of Glen Carbon; and sisters, Ruth Anne and (Bob) Abernathy of Troy, Ill., and Kim and (Alex) Morrison of Parker, Colo.
Memorials are suggested to Camp Hope.
Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016 at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, Ill.
Funeral: In celebration of his life, services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2016 at the funeral home with Pastor Rob Schneider officiating. Burial will follow with full military rites at Glen Carbon City Cemetery.
