Dean Belt, born July 13, 1953, met his Savior face to face on Feb. 2, 2016.
Dean humbly served his community 28 years as a member of the Fairview Heights Police Department. He had a great passion for motorcycles and he loved to ride his Harley with no particular destination in mind. Dean was unsurpassed in his kindness and compassion for others. He routinely went out of his way to help those in need. His elderly neighbors had no idea that he was the one shoveling the snow from their paths and driveways as they slept. Several people received food and cash, never knowing that Dean was the one behind it. He helped, not to get anything in return, but just as a way of showing love to others that were often overlooked by so many. He was a man of integrity that loved deeply.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence, nee Canty, Belt; his sister, June (Jack) Schilling; and his brother, Bill Belt.
Dean leaves behind his wife, Kathy Belt, whom he married on Oct. 25, 2008, in Panama City Beach, Fla., and two sons, Brandon Belt of St. Louis, Mo., and Brian Belt of Rochester, N.Y. He loved his family dearly and was immensely proud of his sons.
Dean's wife would also like to thank our dear friend, Kimberly Brown, for the unwavering love and assistance she has provided for so many years. Dean was greatly loved and his absence leaves a tremendous void in our hearts but we rejoice with him that he is now in the presence of Christ, whole and joyous. We anticipate the day that we are reunited for eternity.
