Dickey Ray Mizell, 72, of Granite City, Ill., born Sept. 20, 1943, in Metropolis, Ill., left from the life on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at his home.

Dickey served his country from 1960 to 1962 in the United States Air Force.

He was united marriage to Sandra Sue Jeffords on March 22, 1966, and they are the proud parents of three sons, Tim, Don and Jason. Dickey and Sue moved to Granite City in 1969.

Dickey worked many years for Mercer-Thomas Mortuaries in Granite City and served as a Madison County Deputy Coroner. He then went on to work as a Legal Investigator for Talbert and Mallon Law Firm in Alton, Ill., and Williams and Caponi Law Firm in Belleville, Ill.

He was a past governor of the Granite City Moose Lodge 272 and a former member of the National Association of Legal Investigators, Granite City Jaycees and the AMVETS. He also served as a Granite City Precinct Committeeman.

Dickey enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, playing cards, playing poker and was known for his barbecue. He was a St. Louis Cardinals fan and watched Days of Our Lives for years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald O. "Pete" Mizell and Florence C., nee Whalen, Dotson; a brother, Robert J. Mizell; a sister, Mary Helen Medley; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles Leslie Jeffords and Rhudell Jeffords; two brothers-in-law, Berle Parr and Wesley Smithart; a niece, Brenda K. Worthen; and two nephews, Ricky and James Parmer.

Those who are left to treasure his memory and to continue his legacy are his wife of 50 years, Sandra Sue Mizell of Granite City, Ill.; three sons, Tim Mizell and friend Julie of Granite City, Ill., Don and wife Lesa Mizell of Cuba, Mo., Jason and wife Jessica Mizell of St. Louis, Mo.; like a son, Gary and wife Julie Sellers of Highland, Ill.; nine grandchildren, Noah, Isaiah, Amanda, Jaime, Kayla, Drew, Dillan, Brenna and Leah; two sisters, Marcia K. Smithart of Durant, Okla., Stephanie Parr of Metropolis, Ill.; daughter-in-law, Debye Mizell of Granite City, Ill.; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia A. and Ellis Reynolds of Granite City, Ill., and Mary E. Mizell and Howard Medley of Metropolis, Ill.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and many friends.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd., Granite City, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, June 13, 2016, at Irwin Chapel with Lesa Mizell officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golconda, Ill.
