Donald Walter Daenzer, 85, of Millstadt, Ill., formerly of Belleville, Ill., born March 9, 1931, in Belleville, Ill., died Wednesday, March 9, 2016, at Laclede Groves Senior Living, Webster Groves, Mo.
A 1949 graduate of Cathedral High School in Belleville, Donald was the first recipient of the Crusader of the Year Award. After serving his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he owned and operated Don Daenzer Building, Inc., Belleville, Ill., for more than 30 years. He was a member of the carpenters union. Don was also the housing inspector for the City of Belleville for many years and served as a city alderman. He was a member St. James Catholic Church, Millstadt, Ill., and a lifetime member of Belleville-Swansea Moose Lodge 1221.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elizabeth, nee Mueller, Daenzer.
Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Jacqueline Jean, nee McClane, Daenzer, whom he married on March 31, 1951; two daughters and three sons, Diane E. (Tom) O'Connor of Sunset Hills, Mo., Daniel W. Daenzer of Belleville, Ill., Deron J. (Kelli) Daenzer of O'Fallon, Ill., Dale A. (Thanh) Daenzer of Westminster, Calif., and Dawn L. (Thomas) Buss of Millstadt, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jaimie (Evan) Ruffino of Belleville, Ill., Carrie Daenzer of Corvallis, Ore., Autumn Daenzer of O'Fallon, Ill., and Eden Buss and Haleigh Buss, both of Millstadt, Ill.; and three great-grandchildren, Griffin, Gemma, and Lola Ruffino.

Visitation: Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill., and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at St. James Catholic Church, Millstadt, Ill.
Funeral: A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016, at St. James Catholic Church, Millstadt, Ill., with Msgr. Marvin Volk officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
