Dorothy Simmons, nee Lucas, 81 of Caseyville, Ill., born Sept. 9, 1934, in St. Louis, Mo., passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at her residence.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and sister-in-law but her children and grandchildren brought her the greatest joy in life. She relished every moment spent with them and had a unique bond with each one. Dorothy was a passionate St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved to spend time with her friends on her weekly bowling league. She was known to all for her feisty personality and out spoken attitude which left quite the impression on everyone. She was simply an amazing person with a wonderful heart and would do whatever she possibly could to help others. She was loved by many and will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Georgia Lucas; brothers, Anthony, James, and in infancy, Lawrence Lucas.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Homer Simmons; her children, Kathleen (Stephen) Duckworth of Collinsville, Ill., retired Senior Master Sgt. Fred (Tara) Simmons of O'Fallon Ill., and Helen (Robert) Watt of Collinsville, Ill.; grandchildren, Zachary (Angie) Simmons, Chad and Connor Duckworth, Airman Caitlyn and Kade Simmons, Katherine and Eric Watt; and great-grandchildren, Elijah and Erin Simmons. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Helen Simmons of Caseyville, Carol Lucas and Georgia Lucas of St. Louis, Mo.
