Edmund Matychowiak Jr.

Edmund John Matychowiak Jr., 90, of Belleville, Ill., born June 26, 1925, in Amidon, North Dakota, died Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2015, at Caseyville Nursing and Rehab Center, Caseyville, Ill.

Mr. Matychowiak was an operating engineer for H.H. Hall Contractors and a member of the Operating Engineers Local 520, Granite City, Ill. He was a past member of both the St. Clair County Anglers Club and the Belleville/Swansea Moose Lodge 1221, Swansea, Ill. Edmund was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Smithton American Legion Post 937, Smithton, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Eileen, nee Mahan, Matychowiak, whom he married on May 17, 1948, and who died on Nov. 28, 2007; a son, Michael Matychowiak; two daughters, Cathy Motsinger and Terry McDaniel; his parents, Edmund J. Sr. and Eva Barbara, nee Nikrant, Matychowiak; three brothers, Stanley, George, and Leonard Matychowiak; two sisters, Tekla (Ed) Zimmermann and Ida (Elbert) Eschman; two grandchildren, Larry Matychowiak, and Chad Elmore; and a great-grandson, Christopher Austin.

Surviving are two sons, Dale Matychowiak of O'Fallon, Ill., and Edmund J. Matychowiak III of Belleville, Ill.; two daughters, Vickie Elmore of Belleville, Ill., and R. Mary Matychowiak of Hannibal, Mo.; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a brother, James (Mary Ann) Matychowiak of Belleville, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2015, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at the funeral home with Msgr. William McGhee officiating. Burial will follow at Valhalla Gardens of Memory, Belleville, Ill.
