Elizabeth R. "Betty" Whitworth, 83, of Alhambra, Ill., born Sunday, Aug. 21, 1932, in Manila, Ark., died Saturday, July 9, 2016, at her residence.
Mrs. Whitworth was born and reared in Manila, Ark. She lived in California, St. Louis and then Granite City, Ill. The family moved to Alhambra, Ill., in 1959 where she and her husband operated a farm northeast of town from 1959-1985. After her husband's death, she later moved into town. In addition to helping on the farm, Betty also drove a school bus for the former Ramsey Bus Service and worked at Oak Brook Golf Course. She had also helped her son with his pharmacy (Medicine Shop). She was always helping someone.
Betty enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their many activities. A great cook, there were always meals at Grandma's house. She enjoyed and was lucky playing the slots.
Betty was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin A. Whitworth Sr., whom she married on Oct. 25, 1948, in Blytheville, Ark., and who died Feb. 28, 1983; her parents, William Roy and Effie Belle, nee Hughes, Glisson; a brother, Carroll Glisson; stepbrother, Daniel Guymon; and stepsister, Juanita Guymon.
Surviving are her children, Sharri A. Whitworth of St. Jacob, Ill., Martin A. Whitworth Jr., of Alhambra, Ill., Frances E. (Thomas W.) Whitworth-Zeller of Marion, Ill., Danny E. Whitworth of Alhambra, Ill., and Jeanette A. (Michael G. Sr.) Whitworth-Gerhart of Jonestown, Pa.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 14, 2016, at Dauderman Mortuary in Alhambra, Ill., and from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 15, 2016, at Salem United Church of Christ in Alhambra, Ill., with Rev. Jerry Amiri officiating. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery in Alhambra, Ill.
