Eugene V. "Gene" Franklin, 92, of Highland, Ill., formerly of Washington Park, Ill., born July 8, 1923, in Nashville, Ill., died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2016, at St. Joseph Hospital, Highland, Ill.
Gene was a self-employed plasterer. He loved silent movies, Tom Mix western movies, cigars and especially chocolate pie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Esther Franklin, nee Slaughter; his parents, Albert and Martha, nee Hodge Franklin; two sisters, Martha Franklin and Ruth Pegg; and two brothers, Ralph Franklin and Howard Franklin.
Surviving are his nephews, John Cleveland and Michael Pegg; his niece, Joyce Franklin; great-nieces; great-nephews; great-great-nieces; and great-great-nephews.

Visitation: Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2016, at Kassly Mortuary Chapel, Fairview Heights, Ill., with Rev. Richard Gosnell officiating. Interment will be in St. Clair Memorial Park, Fairview Heights, Ill.
