Farrel Hill

Farrel E. Hill, 85, of Glen Carbon, Ill., born Sept. 17, 1930, in Hutchinson, Kan., died May 22, 2016, at Anderson Hospital, Maryville, Ill.

Farrel was a retired civil engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation in Collinsville, Ill., and served in the Army.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Villa Hills in Belleville, Ill. An avid chess player and member of the Belleville Chess Club, he collected chess sets, taught chess and enjoyed competing in tournaments. He also enjoyed amateur photography and collected cameras. He loved to travel. He was loved and respected by his friends, children and grandchildren.

Farrel was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, nee Voges, Hill; his parents, J. Howard Hill and Alice, nee Blubaugh, Hill; and his brothers, Jay and Dale Hill.

Surviving are his son, John (Michelle) Hill of Glen Carbon, Ill.; a daughter, Mary (Robert) Turner of San Tan Valley, Ariz.; a granddaughter, Ashley Hill; a grandson, Logan Hill; a brother, Wendell (Marita) Hill of Garden Plain, Kan.; a sister-in-law, Erma Hill of Concordia, Kan.; a brother-in-law, Milton (Pamela) Voges of Red Bud, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation: Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Kurrus Funeral Home, Belleville, Ill.

Funeral: A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Kurrus Funeral Home, with Pastor Jack Kurrelmeyer officiating. Interment will follow at Red Bud City Cemetery, Red Bud, Ill.
