George B. Coughlin, 83, of Belleville, Ill., born Monday, Feb. 4, 1929, in East St. Louis, Ill., died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville, Ill.
George was a retired East St. Louis Police officer and an investigator for the St. Clair County States Attorneys office for a total law enforcement career of more than 50 years. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church Belleville, Ill., the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Police, Major Case Squad, and was a US Army veteran serving in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine J., nee Leveling, Coughlin; parents, George P. and Thelma, nee Gaghen, Coughlin; sister, Mary Evelyn Coughlin; and brother, Jack G. Coughlin.
Surviving are his children, Craig (Dana) Coughlin of Millstadt, Ill., Cass (Carmen) Coughlin of Chicago, Ill., and Shawn Coughlin (fiancee, Sarah Davis) of Belleville, Ill.; brother, Gene (Joan) Coughlin of Belleville, Ill.; grandchildren, Jessica Coughlin, Wyatt Coughlin, Grace Coughlin, Josie Coughlin, Gabriela Coughlin and Daniel Coughlin; brothers-in-law, Ray (Carolyn) Leveling of Collinsville, Ill., John (Joan) Leveling of Swansea, Ill., and Norman (Rita) Leveling of Swansea, Ill.; sister-in-law, Carol Ann (Duane) McClanahan of Dupo, Ill.; dear nieces and nephews,

Funeral: A funeral procession will leave from Kurrus Funeral Home in Belleville, Ill., at 9:40 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian burial at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Belleville, Ill., with Father Clyde Grogan officiating. Interment will follow at Green Mount Catholic Cemetery, Belleville, Ill.
