George Dewey Smith Jr., 84, of Collinsville, Ill., born Sunday, Dec. 13, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo., died Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016.
Dewey was a civil servant with the 375th Com Squad at Scott Air Force Base and was a member of the Caseyville United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George Dewey and Della, nee Beguelin, Smith Sr.; a brother-in-law, Bob McAllister; and a nephew, Scott McAllister.
Surviving are his wife, Margie, nee Rector, Smith, whom he married on Sunday, July 7, 1957, in Carbondale, Ill.; children, Linda Smith of Collinsville, Ill., and Sara (Terry) Tipton of Marine, Ill. Dewey is further survived by a sister, Sara (Bob) Clark of Vandalia, Ill.; a niece, Susan (Darrel) Casey of Vandalia, Ill.; two grandchildren, Brian Tipton and Samantha Tipton; a nephew, Brad McAllister of Highland, Ill.; and many cousins.
Memorials may be made in Dewey's honor to the Caseyville United Methodist Church.
Visitation: Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 2016, at Herr Funeral Home, Caseyville, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016, at Herr Funeral Home, Caseyville, Ill.
