Gerry Kay Usher, 78, of Troy, Ill., born November 15, 1937, in Alton, Ill., passed away Friday, January 15, 2016, in Maryville, Ill.
Gerry will be remembered for her humor, listening ear, sense of commitment, and passion for excellence. She loved her family and friends, and had a soft spot for animals.
As a teenager in Bunker Hill, Ill., Gerry started her own dance school and taught aspiring tap dancers in Bunker Hill and neighboring communities for the next decade. She graduated from Bunker Hill High School and started a second career as a secretary for the Macoupin County Courthouse in Carlinville. In 1963, she moved to Chicago Heights and became a stay at home mom. In the 1970s, she worked a short time at the American Judicature Society in Chicago. She spent her husband's retirement years in Ocala, Fla., and moved back to the St. Louis area in 2010, living in Cambridge House of Maryville and Fountains of Troy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Newell Usher; parents, Edwin and Katie, nee Weber, Acuncius; a beloved aunt, Aldene Acuncius; and a grandson, Eric McClain.
Surviving are her daughter, Dannette (Andy) McKellar of Troy, Ill.; stepdaughter, Cindi (Harry) McClain-Mack of East Alton, Ill.; grandson, Dan (Lonnie) McClain of De Soto, Mo.; great-grandsons, Eric and Austin McClain of De Soto, Mo.; and extended family and friends.

Visitation: Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at Richeson Funeral Home, Troy, Ill., and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 6325 W. Main St., Maryville, Ill., with Rev. Rob Roy officiating. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Ill.
