Harold W. Finke, Sensei, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church on Tuesday, April 20, 2010.
After God, family and country, Harold Finke's greatest passion was undoubtedly the martial arts. He has lived his life practicing and attaining the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of them. His accomplishments were stellar. After 40 years of training, he is a 7th degree black belt in Matsubayashi-Ryu and holds the teaching rank of Kyoshi. Only four people in the western world hold these ranks. The USBBA has awarded him a 5th degree black belt. He has trained for decades in the ancient Okinawan weapons of Bo, Sai, Tonfa and Nunchaku, and is one of the greatest weapons teachers in the country. His family, friends and students will miss him.
Harold was an electrical manager at U.S. Steel in Granite City, Ill., since 1974, and was a graduate of SIU Carbondale with a BS degree.
He was preceded in death by a son, Alexander Finke; and a sister, Valerie Garrison.
Surviving are his wife, Robin L., nee Hensley, Finke; two sons, Damian W. (Liza) Finke and Niles Finke; two grandchildren, Skyler and Makayla Finke; and a sister, LaVonne (Albert) Jones; our dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the family are appreciated. A special thanks to his friends at Granite City Steel and SSM Hospice.
