Helen Reiff

Helen Agnes Reiff, nee Mezyk, 88, of Fairview Heights, Ill., born June 12, 1927, in East St. Louis, Ill., entered into Heaven to rejoin the love of her life, Jim, Sunday, April 24, 2016, at home surrounded by family.

Helen was extremely involved in her children's activities, from Khoury League baseball to the PTA. She worked with the William Holliday School District as a monitor and volunteered in the cafeteria where she was affectionately known as "Shorty." She enjoyed playing the slots and was an avid Cardinals baseball fan. She valued her faith and regularly attended Mass at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Fairview Heights, Ill. She was proud of her Polish American heritage. She is described as sweet, compassionate, loving and just a little stubborn. She was a mother to all and cared deeply for friends and family alike. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister who will truly be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James T. Reiff; a son-in-law, Gary Holt; parents, Andrew and Mary, nee Motyka, Mezyk; four brothers, Paul, John, Walter, and Frank.

Surviving are her five children, Fred Reiff, of Tallahassee, Fla., Patricia "Patsy" Holt of Waterloo, Ill., Roger (Brenda) Reiff of Highland, Ill., Rita (Tom) Westerheide of Belleville, Ill., and Daniel (Jeannine) Reiff of Shiloh, Ill.; eight grandchildren, Cindy (Cory) Morea, Fred (Katie) Reiff Jr., James (Jess) Holt, Dawn (Jason) Jones, Michael (Veronica) Reiff, Ryan Reiff, Matthew (Natalie) Reiff, and Julie (Charles) Solt; great-grandchildren, Zach, Braxton, Colby, Chason, Mary Kate, Luke, Lilah, Brock, Bryley, Gabrielle, Francesca, Amber, Charlie, Jack, and one on the way; a brother, Mitchell; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Visitation: Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Lake View Funeral Home, Fairview Heights, Ill.

Funeral: Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Ill.
