Ida Stewart, nee Peets, 82, of East St. Louis, Ill., born Jan. 28, 1921, in Mounds City, Ill., died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at Memorial Hospital, Belleville, Ill.
Mrs. Stewart was employed by Obear Nester Glass Co., for many years and later taught in school district 189 as a teacher's aide. "Granny," as she was affectionately called, gave love and self-worth to all the lives she touched. The door to her heart and home were always open to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, as well as other relatives and friends.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by her parents, James and Earline, nee Hamilton, Peets; brothers, Thomas, Vernon, Richard and James; a sister, Flora; and a daughter, Earline Stewart.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Frances Peets Cannon and Monica Stewart (Chauncey) Boyd; 11 grandchildren, Clemmie (Mary Alice) Cannon Jr., Carmen Cannon Taylor, Clarence (Teresa Anne) Cannon, Carlton Lamont Cannon, Angela Withers Griffin, Carl (Lisa) Withers Jr., Carlton (Michelle) Withers, Antionetted (Warren) Shields, Benita Rowry, Michelle Boyd and Joshua Boyd; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great- grandchildren; a brother, Cecil (Lorrie) Peets; a sister. Jewel Cason; a brother-in-law, Steve (Mary) Stewart; a sister-in-law, Queen Ester Stewart; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation: Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Officer Funeral Home, East St. Louis, Ill.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at House of Prayer to all Nations, Washington Park, Ill. Burial will be in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Ill.
