Jack P. Taylor Jr., 54, of Granite City, Ill., born Nov. 30, 1961, in Granite City, Ill., passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016, at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City surrounded by his family.
Jack was a mechanical engineer and a project manager for Heneghan and Associates in Godfrey, Ill. He was a member of Unity Baptist Church in Granite City where he was a Sunday school teacher. He earned his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Missouri, Rolla and earned a master's degree in business from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. Jack served as past master of Triple Lodge 835, past president of Ainad Hospital Unit, past president of Ainad Tri City Shrine Club and a member of the Scottish Rite. He served as a member of the Granite City Planning and Zoning Committee and was considered "the smartest man in the world" by his friends and family. Jack was a loving father, a devoted husband, a giving son and brother and a very proud grandpa.
Jack is survived by and will be missed by his wife, Katie, nee Choat, Taylor, whom he married on Sept. 2, 1983; his sons, Luke and (Ena) Taylor of Florissant, Mo., and Jake and (Heather) Taylor of Granite City; his grandchildren, Skyler Whitlock of Granite City, Gavin Whitlock of Granite City, Jackson Taylor of Granite City and Matthew Taylor of Florissant, Mo.; his parents, Jack P. and Velda, nee Masterson, Taylor Sr.; brother, Brad and (Julie) Taylor of New Port Coast, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Renee Choat and Carol and (Kent) Monical; brother-in-law, Mike Choat; nieces, Brooke Taylor and Brianna Taylor; nephew, Sean Choat; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Clara and Bill Choat.
Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospital or Unity Baptist Church.
Visitation: Friends may visit from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2016, at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, Ill. A Masonic service will be held at 12:15 p.m.
Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Mark Powell officiating. Burial will follow services at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Glen Carbon, Ill.
