James Simms Obituary
James B. Simms, 82, of Glen Carbon, Ill., born on April 15, 1928, in Washington D.C., passed from this life on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Simms was the owner and operator of Turner Cleaners & Laundry in Edwardsville, Ill., and Esquire Cleaner in Collinsville, Ill. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army Air Corp, was a member of the American Legion Post 917 in Maryville, Ill., and a member of the Eagles Lodge.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" M. Simms, his parents, Frederick B. and Margie Simms; and two brothers, Edward and Robert Simms.
Surviving are his sons, Frederick (Cindy) Simms of Conroe, Texas, Michael Simms of Rockford, Ill., James Simms of Dubuque, Iowa, and Raymond (Denise) Simms of St. Louis, Mo.; daughter, Judy (Anthony) Proctor of Mt. Prospect, Ill.; brother, Thomas Simms of Silver Spring, Md.; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at Irwin Chapel, 591 Glen Crossing Road in Glen Carbon, Ill.
Funeral: A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, the funeral home.
